Ten Thousand Miles
Some folks say it’s best to lay those dreams to rest
And let wild hope roam free only in your sleep
But the wings of inspiration keep on beating through the night
Free flight, the breath of life splashing colors ‘cross the dawn
Did I walk ten thousand miles today?
Or was that wandering all my dreams?
Did I walk ten thousand miles today?
Lord give me the strength to get on down the road
Won’t you light my way to see this journey home?
The ocean foamed on one hand as it kissed the rocky shore
The jungle blocked escape by land as I climbed and crawled along
I watched the sunset in the sea turn water into wine
Then naught but darkness came to pass–the price for such a sight
For all its dark and danger that jungle gave its light
As I gathered wood to fuel the flames—sweet vision through the night
But the ocean wonted far too long—the tide came rolling in
To steal that fire—drown deep desire—spread steam upon the wind
The waves crashed all about me as I pressed into the rocks
Their roar engulfed eternity; the darkness knew no form
The night crept by so slowly he was late to meet the dawn
The outline of the jungle glowed, so soft the light of morn
