I’m a mountain man

Been here forever and a year

I’m a mountain man

This peak is my station alone

Couldn’t you come up and see me sometime?

Couldn’t you find the trail?

 

Once I walked your city streets

Discovered I was an alien

One of a kind—a flicker in the dark

Of a dead cold concrete tomb

It can be so lonely here

With no fire to keep me warm

 

Won’t you bring me a spark?

I can see your candle in the dark

Come blow on these coals

I’m tired and I’m cold

Hoping to fly away from here

But thinking I may fall

How can I be afraid to leap?

 

When I open my eyes to that light

It blazes its beacon in the night

But I can’t help but remember that moth
