If I Catch Afire
There was a time when I would hide
So far under the bed
That dust bunnies and cockroaches
Were about my only friends
Then one day it dawned on me
And the sun came streaming in
Living life to the limit
Is not a deadly sin
(chorus)
So if I catch afire
Please don’t put me out
No stop and drop and roll for me
It’s just jump and twist and shout
Don’t call the fire department
Don’t call the rescue squad
Simply raise your chalice in the air
And give thanks to all the gods
I’ve got no need to mope about
Or cry into my beer
It’s such a waste of energy
To live in mortal fear
Now each day I seem to wake up
With a grin from ear to ear
So when you see my smile a-shining
Wish me the happiest New Year
Now my cauldron overfloweth
With a sweet and frothy brew
That’s so much better tasting
Than that slimy bitter stew
No futility and anguish
Nor negative bull shit
Won’t you toast with me the universe
Of never ending gifts?
